Biography

An advisor to Fortune 100 executives and world-class institutions for more than 25 years, Dr. Susan Battley is an internationally recognized expert on CEO and board effectiveness.

Battley’s clients include chief executives, corporate officers, board directors, Nobel laureates, association executives and public sector officials in the United States and abroad.

Fast Focus on Success, Battley’s radio program on leadership and career excellence, was commended by the Clinton White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. S

he has also been recognized by Jones New York’s 100 Influential Women program for her role in women’s leadership development and mentoring. 

Her articles have appeared in leading business and professional publications, including Leader to Leader, Leadership Excellence, Forbes, Fast Company, Huffington Post and The Oxford University Press Handbook of Lifelong Learning.

A respected expert for analyzing leader behavior and corporate governance in the context of breaking events and key trends, Battley has been featured in media outlets worldwide, including CBS National News, CNN, CNBC, The New York Times, Wall Street Journal,  Business Week, Harvard Management Update and USA Today.

Battley is a Governance Fellow of the National Association of Corporate Directors.  She currently serves on the board of the Smithsonian Institution Libraries, and formerly served on the board of the Metropolitan Opera Guild where she was Governance chair.  Other board positions held include both educational and professional organizations.

Her book, Coached to Lead: How to Achieve Extraordinary Results with an Executive Coach (Wiley/Jossey-Bass) was the first – and pioneering – executive’s guide to executive coaching.  Soundview Executive Book Summaries hailed her as a “wise guide to greater effectiveness.” 

Battley is a member of the American Psychological Association, the American College of Healthcare Executives and the Society of Consulting Psychology.  She holds doctoral degrees in Psychology (PsyD) and economic History (PhD with Distinction).  She is a licensed psychologist in New York State.

Prior to starting her firm in 1998, she was a clinical associate professor and ombudsman at Stony Brook University, State University of New York.
